Frequently Asked Questions

The brush - how it works

How does the self-cleaning button work, step by step?

Step 1: Brush your hair as normal. Hair collects at the base of the bristles as usual.

Step 2: When you're done brushing, hold the brush over a bin or sink and twist the handle.

Step 3: A flat pad inside the brush rises, pushing all the trapped hair above the bristle tips in one smooth upward motion.

Step 4: Pinch the lifted hair and pull it away in a single swipe - it comes off in one clump, cleanly.

Step 5: Twist the handle back. The pad retracts. Your brush is clean and ready to use again.

Total time: approximately 2-4 seconds.

Does the cleaning mechanism ever get clogged or stuck?

The mechanism is simple enough that clogging is very rare. If you use a lot of styling products like dry shampoo, wax, or hairspray, residue can sometimes build up around the bristle base over time. To prevent this:

  • Clean the brush every time after brushing - don't let hair accumulate over multiple sessions
  • Once a month, run the brush head under warm water with a drop of shampoo and use a comb to gently clear residue from between the bristles
  • Let it air-dry bristle-side down before using again
How is this different from a regular paddle brush?

A standard paddle brush requires you to manually pick out trapped hair after every use - usually with your fingers or a comb - which takes 2-3 minutes and often isn't done as often as it should be. Dirty bristles transfer old oils, skin cells, and product buildup back to your freshly washed hair every time you brush.

The self-cleaning brush eliminates this entirely. Because cleaning takes two seconds, people actually do it after every session - which means cleaner bristles, cleaner hair, and a healthier scalp in the long run. The detangling performance is identical to a standard paddle brush.

Can I use it to apply or distribute hair oils and serums?

Yes. You can apply a small amount of hair oil, serum, or leave-in conditioner to the bristle tips and brush through damp hair - this distributes product evenly from root to tip without overloading specific sections.

Just make sure to clean the brush thoroughly after any product use, as oil residue can build up around the cleaning plate if left too long. A quick rinse under warm water once a week keeps everything functioning perfectly.

Hair health & benefits

Why does a dirty hairbrush damage your hair?

Every time you brush, your hair deposits sebum (natural scalp oil), dead skin cells, product buildup, and environmental dust onto the bristles. If the brush isn't cleaned regularly, this accumulates and ferments between the bristles.

When you brush again, all of that residue transfers back onto your clean hair - making it look greasy faster, reducing volume, and creating an environment where bacteria and dandruff-causing fungi can thrive on your scalp.

Haircare professionals recommend cleaning a brush every 1–2 weeks. With a self-cleaning brush, this becomes effortless - most users clean it after every single session, which is the ideal routine.

Does it actually help with hair growth?

The brush won't cause dramatic hair growth on its own - it's a brush, not a treatment. However, it contributes to the conditions that support healthy hair growth in two real ways:

  • Scalp stimulation: The rounded bristles create gentle friction against the scalp as you brush, increasing blood flow to the hair follicles. Better circulation means better nutrient delivery to growing hair.
  • Reduced breakage: Because the bristles are flexible and the cushion pad absorbs pressure, this brush causes significantly less mechanical breakage than stiff-bristle alternatives. Less breakage means your hair retains more of its length over time.

Pair daily brushing with a clean scalp routine and you'll see a genuine difference in hair quality within a few weeks.

Will it reduce frizz and static?

Better than a regular plastic brush, yes. The flexible TPE bristles generate less friction than rigid nylon bristles, which reduces the static electricity that causes flyaways. The natural oil distribution from root to tip as you brush also helps smooth the cuticle slightly, reducing frizz on wavy and coarse hair types.

For maximum frizz reduction, brush on slightly damp hair (with a light leave-in conditioner) rather than completely dry hair - this is when bristles glide most smoothly and you'll get the sleekest result.

Care & durability

How do I properly clean and maintain the brush?

After every use: Twist the handle and remove the collected hair. That's it.

Once a week: Hold the brush with bristles facing down under warm (not hot) running water. Add a small drop of shampoo to the bristles and use an old toothbrush or comb to gently clean between the bristles and around the plate.

After washing: Shake out excess water and leave it bristle-side down on a towel to air-dry. Never use a hairdryer to dry the brush - heat can warp the plastic and damage the cleaning mechanism.

Do not: Submerge fully in water, use harsh chemical cleaners, or clean in a dishwasher.

How long will the brush last?

With regular use and proper care, the brush is designed to last 12-24 months or longer. The cleaning mechanism is a simple mechanical action with no electronic components or batteries - there's nothing complex to wear out or break.

The bristles will naturally soften very slightly with extended use, which is normal and doesn't affect performance. If you ever notice the cleaning plate is not retracting fully or the bristles are damaged, contact us - our 30-day guarantee covers product defects, and we're happy to advise on lifespan issues beyond that window.

Does it need batteries or charging?

No, it's entirely mechanical. The self-cleaning action is powered by a simple spring mechanism inside the handle. There are no batteries, no charging ports, no USB cables, and nothing electronic inside the brush.

This also means it won't stop working if you forget to charge it, and it will never become obsolete due to a dead battery. It works on day one exactly the same as it will after two years.
